Session Content

What you will learn

This session is built from real practice scenarios and evidence-based research, not slides full of buzzwords.

  • What AI actually is (and what it is not): pattern recognition, not comprehension
  • The four types of AI you will encounter in social care: reactive, predictive, conversational, and generative
  • How generative AI works: tokens, temperature, and the "next word engine"
  • Context windows: why AI "forgets" and what that means for your assessments
  • Hallucinations and bias: the twin risks every practitioner must understand
  • The golden rules of data protection when using AI tools in social care
  • Practical scenarios: structuring care plans, translating policy, and building chronologies with AI support

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need any technical background?

Not at all. This session is designed for people with little to no knowledge of AI. We start from scratch and explain everything in plain English. If you can use email and the internet, you have all the technical knowledge you need.

Is it really free?

Yes. AI 101 is completely free. No upsell during the session. We run it because we believe every social care practitioner deserves access to AI training, not just those whose organisations can afford it.

Will there be a recording?

Yes. Everyone who registers will receive a link to the recording and the slides after the session, whether you attend live or not.

How long is the session?

60 minutes, including time for questions. We keep it focused and practical so you can fit it into your lunch break.

Can I share this with my team?

Please do. The more practitioners who understand AI fundamentals, the safer the whole sector becomes. Each person just needs to register individually so we can send them the materials.

I cannot make 8th April. Can I still learn AI 101?

Yes. Our full AI 101 self-paced course covers the same material and is available on the Resources page right now, for free. You can work through it at your own pace, anytime.

I have already done some AI training. Is this too basic?

If you are already confident explaining hallucinations, context windows, and data protection rules to a colleague, you might want to wait for the Intermediate session. If any of those terms are new to you, AI 101 is the right starting point.
